Literacy Together

Literacy Together is a comprehensive family literacy service. Goodwill Industries, KPS Adult Education, KPS Even Start program and the Kalamazoo Community Foundation, parents and children will attain the skills they need to be successful in school, work and life. School readiness, basic literacy skill development and GED completion are offered in a non-traditional program model. The program, Literacy Together, is based on a family literacy model having three main components: early childhood education, shared parent and child learning and adult literacy as job readiness skills. The hope for family literacy is to break the cycle of intergenerational poverty and illiteracy by offering families in our community a comprehensive family literacy program. Literacy Together will emphasize the foundational skills such as cognition and oral language development leading to reading readiness and school success for young children. Additionally, adults within the family will work toward improved adult literacy skills or GED completion.
