Teens As Leaders© (TAL) helps youth and teens link-up with each other and learn ways that they can participate in the well-being of their community as they become more aware of themselves and respect others. The TAL program is facilitated in 18 consecutive sessions teaching leadership, encouraging self-awareness, networking and resource development. EMI provides trained certified facilitators and all materials. TAL is designed to be facilitated at your school, your community organization or your Church. Program Content Learning objectives:
- Teens will improve their communication skills and demonstrate friendly and courteous attitudes in social settings.
- Teens will develop critical thinking skills.
- Teens will have an increased awareness of their self-value & a desire to serve their community.
| Area of Focus | Summaries | | Module 1 Relationship Building | The content of this module is facilitated to build trust among teen team members and the facilitators. Teens will create community with their peers in groups of 10-15 and become comfortable with sharing their feelings. They will formulate their values and appreciate their heritage. OUTCOME: Teens will demonstrate trust and understand their self-worth. | |
| Module 2 Priorities | This module is designed to expose youth and teens to famous American and international heroes. They will discuss issues that concerned the famous hero and whether similar issues still exist. The facilitator must also be prepared to support teens with doing basic fact-finding research. OUTCOME: Teens will discover which current issues are relevant and of interest to them. | |
| Module 3 Volunteerism | This module will help teens focus on the volunteerism of others but most importantly, how they themselves are heroes. They will begin to see themselves as community assets, valuable to their families and peers. OUTCOME: Teens will actively seek assistance from others to work on their concern or issue (tap community resources). | |
| On-going | Youth and Teens that participate in the Teens As Leaders program participants will become ambassadors for youth involvement with nonprofit, business and the human service sectors. | |
